The Genesis GV80 is a midsize luxury SUV that feels much bigger than it actually is in a good way. It’s powerful when it needs to be, it’s comfortable over long journeys and when you fill it with people, its power and comfort shine.

What’s new for 2025?

The 2025 Genesis GV80 gets a freshened design and technology upgrades like an updated grille with a double-mesh pattern, hidden exhaust tips, and refreshed vents. A 27-inch wide OLED display replaces some instrument clusters and central screens. Upgraded HVAC controls mix tactile knobs with touch-sensitive buttons. Pricing starts at $79,300 for this trim, topping out at $81,300.

Inside

The plush inside’s upgraded with better quality materials and a redesigned center console delivering a wireless smartphone charger and USB-C ports. A 14.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as per usual. Heated armrests and a heated steering wheel add to comfort in chilly climes.

Engine

I had the 3.5L twin-turbocharged V6 with 375 horsepower and that was more than enough gusto for the big boy. There’s also a less expensive 2.5L turbocharged inline-four with 300 horsepower. Each engines pair with an eight-speed automatic transmission and standard all-wheel drive across all trims. Mileage is a predictably just-ok 19 MPG city/highway combined.

The Drive

It feels big and “boaty” and there’s a slight numbness in the steering. It is not meant to be a road-carver and isn’t, but throw it into “Sport” mode and there’s a thrilling bit of whomp. An adaptive suspension system, featuring “Road Preview,” scans the road to adjust damping for comfort, and it feels sweetly “floaty,” without much jolting when hitting bumps.

Luxury touches like a heated steering wheel and heated armrests are available on higher trims, and the cabin’s reasonably quiet. The Bang & Olifson sound system is above-average, and the system connected with my phone in a jiffy.

Complaints

The GV80 attempts luxury and succeeds overall but still does not meet or exceed its German brother and sister SUVs in the swank department. For a loaded price of $81,300 it needed to kill, but it merely wounded.

Safety

Genesis is on-point with the latest safety gear with Highway Driving Assist package combining adaptive cruise control and lane centering as well as automated lane changes and so much more. The car feels very solid and brawny, thus lending a feeling of safety.

Warranty

The GV80 has a comprehensive list of warranties – click here to see.

Conclusion: The GV80’s bland swagger and powerful engine will make it a favorite for fans of the brand.
